Fellowships

We strengthen the capabilities of the climate campaigning community by helping high-potential candidates gain hands-on experience and build relationships in the sector in Asia.
Where we’ve been for the past three years
  • Cuttlefish team members provided ad-hoc training on specific areas of digital marketing to partners and network colleagues across the Asia region, such as paid social marketing, campaign strategy development, data analytics and creative processes.
  • In 2021, Cuttlefish conducted a survey of 38 organisations in nine countries in the Asia-Pacific region to identify their main pain points when using digital communication tools for their campaigns (see here).
  • Meanwhile, through experience working with colleagues across the region, we also found that the capacity of organisations to attract skilled staff for climate campaigns was limited due to difficulties in finding high-potential candidates.
Where we’re going for the next three years
  • In 2023, Cuttlefish will develop and launch a regional climate campaigns fellowship program, the Asia Digital Exposure Climate Lab (‘ADX Climate Lab’ as a working title), to add more skilled capacity to the climate campaigning community in Asia. See the pitch here.
  • The Bangkok-based program will seek to engage regional graduate students from two academic disciplines – (1) social change campaigning and (2) tech/marketing/communication arts/data science – and invite them to join a 6-12 month fellowship with Cuttlefish. Afterwards, they could have the opportunity to work with partner organisations in their home country, network colleagues, continue working with Cuttlefish or carry on their careers elsewhere.

Fellowhips GOALS
2023-2026

We collaborate with partners and communities to plan, create and launch creative campaigns to achieve our shared climate action goals.
2023 -2024
2024 -2025
2025 -2026
Design and launch the ADX Lab program and brand [4.4.4.1]
We’ll create and launch a dedicated brand, platform and communication materials to attract fellows to join.
Develop university partnerships, policies and procedures [4.4.4.2]
We’ll engage with existing contacts in universities in Bangkok with an intake of regional graduate students, in social change campaigning of tech/marketing/communication arts/data science backgrounds, and invite them to join the program.
Pilot the program with two fellows in Year One [4.4.4.3]
We’ll “learn-by-doing” in the first year by inviting two fellows to pilot the program with us and see how it fits into and complements our structure. Then we'll revisit the program structure accordingly.
Recruit and manage four fellows in Year Two [4.4.5.1]
In Year Two, the program will start properly, and we’ll aim to attract four fellows to join the program from end-to-end in Bangkok.
Expand capacity to integrate the program with Cuttlefish campaigns [4.4.5.2]
We’ll seek to integrate fellows into the work of Cuttlefish, either by joining existing projects in Cuttlefish or the network, or by being invited and supported to start their own climate advocacy campaign with our guidance and a campaign allowance.
Formalise operational infrastructure required to scale this program [4.4.5.3]
Building infrastructure needed to support work permits, stipends, grants and proper governance of the ADX Lab program and foundation in Thailand.
Recruit and manage six fellows in Year Three [4.4.6.1]
In Year Three, the program will seek to engage six fellows in the program from end-to-end in Bangkok. Fellows may be seconded to work with GSCC country desks or thematic teams for specific projects and initiatives.
Plan and host the first ADX Lab Summit [4.4.6.2]
To re-engage previous fellows and attract new ones, we’ll seek to organise a regional in-person summit to share skills and experiences, allowing opportunities to network and work together on shared challenges.
Regionalise the program [4.4.6.3]
The program will seek to decentralise from Bangkok by expanding to other key markets in the Asia region.
